The Minnesota Vikings activated running back Jordan Mason on Oct. 24, 2026, bolstering the teams backfield ahead of their Week 7 game against the Indianapolis Professional Football Team. The move came as the Vikings stood 5-0 entering the matchup. The team announced the roster change in a news release published Oct. 24. Masons activation follows a multi-week recovery from a hand injury.

Mason had been sidelined since sustaining the hand injury in Week 1 that required surgery. He carried 15 times for 59 yards and scored a touchdown in the season-opening 39-22 win over the Green Bay Packers. That production came before he was placed on injured reserve following the opener. Masons return restores a familiar option in Minnesotas backfield rotation.

The Vikings have leaned heavily on Aaron Jones Sr. since Week 2, giving him a larger workload over the past four games. Jones has rushed 85 times for 370 yards in that span, including a 105-yard performance at the Chicago Bears in Week 2 when he surpassed 1,000 career rushing yards against the Bears. He also rambled for 113 yards and a touchdown at the New Orleans Saints in Week 5 despite briefly leaving that game with a knee issue. Jones recent production underscored the need for Masons return.

To clear a spot on the 53-man roster for Mason, the Vikings released running back DeeJay Dallas and then re-signed him to the practice squad. Dallas initially joined Minnesotas practice squad in September and was promoted to the active roster after Masons Week 1 injury. The team said Dallas has played 40 snaps on offense and 92 on special teams and that he will be elevated for Sundays game. The Vikings also released cornerback Natrone Brooks from the practice squad to make room for Dallas.

The Vikings welcomed their Week 6 bye and reported all players on the active roster available for Sundays game. The roster announcement was part of the teams news release on Oct. 24, 2026. Minnesota will travel into Week 7 with added depth at running back following Masons activation. The Indianapolis Professional Football Team entered the week with a 2-4 record.

NFL Sports Blog Take

Jordan Masons return gives the Vikings a clearer running back rotation after a stretch in which Aaron Jones absorbed a heavy workload. Masons early-season production, 15 carries for 59 yards and a touchdown in the opener, provides Minnesota a known complement to Jones. Elevating DeeJay Dallas preserves continuity on special teams and keeps a veteran who has contributed on offense and in coverage units. With the roster intact following the Week 6 bye, the Vikings enter Week 7 with increased depth against the Indianapolis Professional Football Team.
