Eagles place RB Tank Bigsby on injured reserve; release LB Anfernee Orji from practice squad

The Philadelphia Eagles announced Tuesday that they have placed running back Tank Bigsby on injured reserve and released linebacker Anfernee Orji from the practice squad. Bigsby exited Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams late in the fourth quarter after being evaluated by medical staff following a rushing attempt. He had shouldered the primary workload out of the backfield after starting running back Saquon Barkley left the game in the first quarter with a hamstring injury.
Through the early portion of the season, Bigsby has 28 carries for 91 yards, averaging 3.3 yards per attempt, and he scored a rushing touchdown in Week 2 against the Tennessee Titans. The fourth-year back was a third-round pick out of Auburn in the 2023 NFL Draft and began his career with Jacksonville. In 2024, his second NFL season, Bigsby rushed for 766 yards and seven touchdowns, and the Eagles acquired him in a trade with Jacksonville during Week 2 of the 2025 season.
Anfernee Orji was signed to the Eagles’ practice squad last week. The Vanderbilt product entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the New Orleans Saints in 2023 and ran a 4.52-second 40-yard dash at the 2023 scouting combine at 230 pounds. Orji spent 2023 on the Saints’ practice squad, made the active roster in 2024 and appeared in 16 games with 30 tackles. He signed with the Tennessee Titans in 2025 but was waived three months later with an injury designation after tearing his ACL during a 2025 joint practice, and he was with the New York Giants during 2026 training camp before joining the Eagles.

Placing Tank Bigsby on injured reserve removes a key depth piece who had stepped into a larger role when Saquon Barkley left Sunday’s game, creating a short-term hole in the Eagles’ backfield. Bigsby’s early-season workload and his 2024 production made him an important rotational option, and Philadelphia will need to address carries and depth in upcoming games. The release of Anfernee Orji trims the practice-squad linebacker room and removes a young player with game experience and special-teams value who has also worked his way back from a significant knee injury. Expect the Eagles to explore available running-back and linebacker options on the practice-squad and free-agent markets to replenish depth ahead of the next roster deadlines.
