Chiefs make series of roster moves, acquire guard Joshua Ezeudu in August trade

The Kansas City Chiefs completed a string of roster moves from the spring into September, highlighted by an Aug. 26 trade that sent a 2028 seventh-round pick to the New York Giants for guard Joshua Ezeudu, the team transaction log shows. The club also re-signed tight end Travis Kelce on March 23, preserving a key offensive piece. The transactions appeared across the March-to-September entries in the ESPN log, reflecting continual roster management. The list documents both veteran additions and developmental moves aimed at offseason and in-season needs.
Kansas City made several March additions and adjustments. The team signed safety Aholi Gilman, defensive tackle Khyiris Tonga and running back Kenneth Walker III on March 12, and added guard Mike Callendo on March 19. The Chiefs also signed Emari Demercado on March 16 and Mike Caliendo on March 14, while releasing offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor on March 4. Those moves reshaped depth along the offensive line, linebacker corps and backfield heading into the spring.
The club was active in August as it finalized its roster. Kansas City claimed defensive tackle Bryson Eason off waivers from San Francisco and defensive end Jack Pyburn from Tampa Bay on Aug. 31. The team signed veteran defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah on Aug. 13 and added defensive end Niles King on Aug. 24. Kansas City also added depth earlier in the month with signings that included wide receiver Jeff Weimer and defensive end Ethan Hurkett.
Through September the Chiefs continued active practice squad management and roster shuffling. The team elevated linebacker Cole Christiansen and defensive end Tyreke Smith to the active roster on Sept. 26, and had elevated Christiansen and defensive tackle Marcus Harris on Sept. 19. Kansas City signed Marcus Harris to the practice squad on Sept. 2, signed tight end Thomas Odukoya on Sept. 5 and released defensive back Tanner McCalister from the practice squad on Sept. 15. The club placed linebacker Ethan Downs and tight end John Michael Gyllenborg on injured reserve on July 28 as part of broader roster maintenance.
The transaction log reflects routine roster churn, including waiver claims, rookie and undrafted free-agent signings and practice squad moves. Notably, on June 12 Kansas City acquired a 2027 sixth-round pick from the Atlanta Falcons in exchange for tackle Wanya Morris and a 2027 seventh-round pick. The entries document the Chiefs’ efforts to build depth and manage the 53-man roster and practice squad ahead of the regular season. The log shows a mix of veteran continuity and added developmental pieces across position groups.

The Chiefs used the spring and summer to balance proven veterans with depth additions and developmental signings. Re-signing Travis Kelce kept a central offensive leader in place, while the Aug. 26 acquisition of guard Joshua Ezeudu and multiple defensive additions addressed front-line depth. Frequent practice squad elevations, particularly at linebacker and along the defensive line, suggest Kansas City will lean on internal depth pieces as the season progresses. Overall, the moves reflect a roster-building approach that pairs short-term competition with longer-term developmental flexibility.
