Jaguars Kick Off Hispanic Heritage Month With Youth Camps, Literacy Events and Essay Contest
The Jacksonville Jaguars kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month on Sept. 15 with a series of community events that included two Somos DUUUVAL Youth Football Camps, a Literacy Locker Room and support for a Duval County Hispanic Heritage Month essay contest, the team said. The first camp, presented by Ticketmaster, was held Sept. 15 at BridgePrep Academy. The second camp took place Sept. 22 at Englewood Elementary School.
Quarterback Joey Aguilar, wide receiver Trebor Peña and running back Chris Rodriguez Jr., each of Hispanic heritage, participated in the Sept. 15 event at BridgePrep Academy, the Jaguars said. Peña and wide receiver Michael Wortham later joined the Sept. 22 camp at Englewood Elementary. Students at both schools received t-shirts and Jaguars merchandise, and each school received an equipment donation funded by Ticketmaster.
On Sept. 22, Aguilar partnered with Whataburger and READ USA for a Somos DUUUVAL-themed Literacy Locker Room at the Global Leadership Academy Discovery Campus, according to the team. Mascot Jaxson de Ville and members of THE ROAR also were on hand for the event. Aguilar read to kindergarten through second-grade students, spoke about the importance of reading, and the children received books to add to their home libraries, Jaguars swag and a free meal from Whataburger.
At the Sept. 27 home game against the New England Patriots, the Jaguars recognized their 2026 Latino Youth Honors nominees, Lorena Clutter of The Bolles School and Enrique Ordoñez of Nease High School, the team said. Clutter, a senior who plays flag football as a wide receiver and linebacker, is active in a school club called BLUE and recently recorded her best finish to date in a statewide Spanish competition in Orlando. Her club organizes a clothing drive each year to collect donations for communities in Peru and the Dominican Republic.
Ordoñez, a senior running back, was raised by Mexican immigrant parents and the team said he embodies values of hard work, humility and perseverance that guide his leadership on the field and in the classroom. The Jaguars said Ordoñez takes pride in representing his heritage and aims to create visibility for younger students in the community. Both nominees will be considered by the NFL among 64 finalists for the leaguewide Latino Youth Honors awards.
The Jaguars Foundation also supported the Duval County Public Schools Hispanic Heritage Month Essay Contest, which invited students countywide to write about an influential Hispanic person impacting the community, the team said. Winners were Aoife Lewis in the elementary division, Shannialia Perez Montero in the middle school division, and Nicole Jiang in the high school division. All three were recognized Oct. 2 and received Jaguars swag and custom jerseys.

The Jaguars combined player involvement and community partnerships to highlight Hispanic Heritage Month through youth football camps, literacy outreach and a countywide essay contest. With Joey Aguilar, Trebor Peña and Chris Rodriguez Jr. leading local events and the Jaguars Foundation backing the essay program, the club connected on-field representation to community initiatives.
