Saints prepared to manage Paris unrest during trip for Stade de France game
PARIS — The New Orleans Saints said they will take precautions while visiting Paris this week as student-led protests have created unrest in the city ahead of Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Stade de France. The game will mark the NFL’s first regular-season contest in Paris, and the Saints (2-4) will face the Steelers (4-2). The team arrived Monday on a direct flight following a 34-27 victory over the New York Giants in East Rutherford, N.J. Team officials said they are monitoring security and adjusting plans as needed.
Coach Kellen Moore said the Saints used the early arrival to acclimate and to maintain a normal practice schedule, noting players were able to get out on the field for a light lift. He said arriving a few days early lets the team follow a Wednesday-through-Sunday routine that resembles a standard week. Moore also noted the additional time allows players to bond and spend some time together in a controlled setting. He described the trip as a continuation of an extended trip from New Jersey to Paris and said he expects it will be beneficial for the team.
Players and team officials acknowledged the unrest and emphasized safety as the top priority. Tight end Juwan Johnson said travel in groups and caution are priorities, noting some players have family in the city and that keeping teammates and families safe is critical. Brett Gosper, the NFL’s head of Europe and Asia-Pacific, said the league has been in contact with local security and French police and that officials are monitoring the situation closely. “It is full speed ahead at this point, we do not see any reason to be otherwise,” Gosper said, adding that the league will keep monitoring developments to ensure safety.

The Saints’ early arrival and effort to maintain a normal weekly routine should help limit unnecessary exposure while giving players time to adjust to the environment and time zone. With the NFL coordinating with local authorities and team officials stressing group travel and cautious activity, the club can focus on preparation for Sunday’s matchup at Stade de France. Controlled team activities and clear communication about safety protocols align with the team’s stated emphasis on readiness and protecting families and staff. Those steps should allow the Saints to concentrate on football while monitoring developments around the city.
