Lumen Field, Seattle
The Chicago Bears visit Seattle on Monday night in a matchup that brings offensive creativity, a demanding defensive environment and fresh roster developments into the same national spotlight. Kickoff at Lumen Field is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. EST on ESPN. The game closes the Week 8 schedule and gives both teams an opportunity to build on their latest victories. 123
Chicago enters after its Thursday night win over New England, giving the Bears additional preparation time before the trip west. Seattle comes off a victory over Kansas City and has spent the week working through changes along its offensive line. The extended buildup gives both coaching staffs time to prepare, but it also raises the importance of executing a clear plan once the game starts. 23
Williams faces a demanding defensive assignment
Caleb Williams' preparation centers on solving Mike Macdonald's defense in a stadium where communication can become part of the challenge. Seattle can force an offense to identify changing responsibilities before the snap and then respond quickly afterward. Chicago needs Williams and the line to agree on the protection picture without allowing the crowd to rush the decision-making process.
The Bears can help their quarterback through motion, varied formations and completions that establish rhythm. Those calls should have a purpose beyond adding movement to the presentation. If the offense can identify a favorable matchup early, Williams has a better chance to deliver on time rather than extending every play under pressure.
Luther Burden III provides a recent example of Chicago's explosive potential. The Bears' official coverage credited him with four catches for 130 yards and a touchdown in the win over the Patriots. Seattle therefore needs secure coverage exchanges and tackling that prevent a short opening from becoming another large gain. 2
Seattle's offensive line has a new configuration
The Seahawks acquired guard Quenton Nelson and announced that Grey Zabel would move to right guard. That change gives Seattle an important new piece, but it also introduces communication and timing considerations when the unit works together. The value of the move on Monday will depend on how effectively the line handles the assignments in front of it. 3
Sam Darnold benefits if Seattle can establish enough rushing efficiency to keep its passing situations manageable. A stable pocket also gives the offense a better chance to use its receivers across different levels of the defense. Chicago should test the new combinations while remaining disciplined enough to avoid creating an easy rushing lane through an overaggressive pressure call.
The Bears also added defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons during the week. Chicago's Friday coordinator availability specifically addressed the trade and preparation for Seattle. His exact immediate role should be established through the team's game-day decisions rather than assumed simply because the transaction occurred before the game. 5
Monday's injury timeline remains open
Seattle's Thursday report listed Charles Cross, Rashid Shaheed and Uchenna Nwosu as nonparticipants with ankle, knee and ankle injuries, respectively. Leonard Williams was limited with an Achilles issue, while Zach Charbonnet practiced fully after a knee listing. Chicago's estimated report listed Kyle Monangai as a nonparticipant with thumb and toe injuries. 4
Those were initial practice details for a Monday game, not final availability decisions. Seattle's Saturday designations and the inactive announcements will provide a firmer view of the personnel. The positions involved matter because pass protection, receiving options and defensive-front depth can all influence how the game is called.
Brian's Take
Chicago has a chance to show that its offense can remain composed against a defense that challenges both recognition and execution. Seattle needs its own protection and rushing plan to prevent the game from becoming a sequence of difficult Darnold dropbacks. I will watch the Bears' pre-snap communication and the Seahawks' new guard configuration as early indicators of how comfortably either offense can operate. The team that turns its preparation and roster additions into clear assignments should have a better chance to control Monday night's finish.
