Las Vegas Raiders’ Brock Bowers, Michael Mayer Spark Offense
The Las Vegas Raiders have seen a boost from their tight end tandem, Brock Bowers and Michael Mayer, the team reported Oct. 23, 2026. Through six games of the 2026 season, both players have 28 receptions each and they have combined for 648 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Their production has coincided with heavy use of two-tight-end personnel groupings that have driven significant yardage for the offense.
Mayer, a 2023 second-round pick from Notre Dame, dealt with injuries and midseason coaching and front office changes in his rookie season. The Raiders selected Bowers in the first round out of Georgia after he won the John Mackey Award twice in college. Bowers earned first-team All-Pro honors and set the NFL record for most receptions by a rookie with 112. Despite strong individual performances, Las Vegas went 7-27 over Bowers and Mayer’s first two seasons together.
The players have developed a close friendship off the field, in part because their fiances socialize and the pairs have taken part in double dates. Mayer said the experiences of the past two seasons have brought them closer, and Bowers noted that spending time together, such as going out to dinner, has been fun. Teammates and coaches say that off-field bonding has carried over into the meeting room and on game day. Tight ends coach Luke Steckel praised their connection and said their interaction shows up in meetings and in the tight end room’s chemistry.
The pair display contrasting personalities, with Mayer more outgoing and Bowers more reserved and focused. Former teammate Davante Adams gave Bowers the nickname “BM,” short for “businessman,” to reflect his on-field demeanor. That personality mix, teammates say, complements their play and contributes to a cohesive group.
NFL Next Gen Stats show Las Vegas has gained 1,345 yards from multiple tight end personnel groupings, the most by any team this season and the second-most through six weeks in the Next Gen Stats era. Through six games, the tight ends remain tied for the team lead in receptions and have combined for 648 yards and four touchdowns. Center Tyler Linderbaum credited the duo’s versatility, saying players who can both catch and block help an offense and calling Bowers and Mayer two of the best tight ends in the league. Both players emphasized a team-first approach and said they want to help the Raiders score and win games.
NFL Sports Blog Take
Bowers and Mayer are beginning to meet the high expectations placed on the Raiders’ tight end room by combining complementary skill sets with off-field chemistry. The numbers through six games and the league-high yardage from multiple tight end groupings indicate Las Vegas is schematically leaning on the position. Continuity with tight ends coach Luke Steckel and the players’ shared, team-first mindset appear to be accelerating their production. If the Raiders convert that efficiency into consistent wins, the tandem could define the offense over the remainder of the season.
