Saints rookie Jordyn Tyson practices, could debut Sunday
Rookie receiver Jordyn Tyson practiced in a limited padded session Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2026, the first time he had been on the field with the New Orleans Saints since suffering a hamstring injury in August. The Saints opened his practice window that day and will evaluate his availability for Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns at Caesars Superdome. Tyson, the No. 8 overall pick, has not yet appeared in a regular-season game this season. The team placed him on injured reserve on Aug. 30, requiring him to miss at least the first four regular-season games.
Tyson injured the hamstring during a joint practice with Jacksonville on Aug. 13 and had stood out during training camp before the injury sidelined him. New Orleans had managed his workload from rookie minicamp through OTAs and mandatory minicamp as part of a careful development plan. The controlled approach aimed to protect his long-term availability while allowing him to show the explosiveness that made him a first-round choice.
Tyson said rehab and team meetings have helped him build a stronger foundation and that he feels faster and more explosive as he progresses. He said he is eager to “catch a ball, catch touchdowns” and to be part of the daily grind with his teammates. He also credited the strength and medical staff for load management and monitoring that guided his recovery.
Quarterback Tyler Shough praised Tyson’s mentality, elusiveness and versatility but said the offense has limited reps with him and must develop chemistry. Coach Kellen Moore said the team will see how the week progresses before making a determination on Tyson’s availability for Sunday. New Orleans entered the week 5-2 while Cleveland was listed at 5-3.
The practice report also opened the returning-to-play window for left tackle Kelvin Banks Jr., who suffered an ankle injury on Sept. 20, was placed on injured reserve and underwent successful surgery. Banks said he is working to regain confidence in the ankle as he returns to practice. Running back Alvin Kamara (back/rest) did not practice Wednesday, while cornerback Martin Emerson Jr. (shin), left tackle Asim Richards (thumb) and running back C.J. Donaldson (shoulder/concussion) were limited.
NFL Sports Blog Take
Getting Tyson back on the field in a limited capacity is a meaningful step for a high first-round pick who has yet to make his NFL debut. His presence could add an explosive target for an offense that has managed his workload carefully, but the lack of game reps and the need to build timing with quarterbacks are real concerns. The Saints’ cautious load management indicates the club will prioritize his long-term availability over an immediate return if any setback occurs.
