Drew Lock threw three touchdown passes to Jaxon Smith-Njigba and the Seattle Seahawks beat the Arizona Cardinals 31-7 in Arizona on Sunday. Seattle built a decisive advantage and never relinquished the lead. The victory improved the Seahawks to 2-0 while the Cardinals fell to 1-1, the AP reported.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba accounted for all three of Lock’s touchdown throws, scoring on 82-, 7- and 12-yard plays. Jason Myers added a 33-yard field goal in the third quarter and converted the extra points. Late in the fourth quarter A.J. Barner added a 1-yard rushing touchdown with 1:11 left, pushing the lead to 31-7.

Arizona’s only touchdown came in the second quarter when Jacoby Brissett connected with Trey McBride on a 2-yard touchdown pass. Seattle’s defense held the Cardinals to seven points through three quarters and limited their ability to mount a comeback. Lock said he did extra preparation for his first start in nearly two years, watching more film and studying, the AP reported.

NFL Sports Blog Take

Smith-Njigba’s three receiving touchdowns were the difference, providing explosive plays that Seattle converted into a comfortable win. Lock’s efficient three-touchdown outing after an extended absence suggests the extra preparation paid off and gives the Seahawks stability at quarterback. The Cardinals managed only a single touchdown through the first three quarters, leaving them little margin for error against Seattle’s big-play offense.
