New York Giants place Tyrone Tracy Jr. on injured reserve, sign Gregory Desrosiers
New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen announced Oct. 28 that running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. was placed on injured reserve and that the team signed running back Gregory Desrosiers from the Los Angeles Chargers’ practice squad. Schoen made the roster announcements during a media session at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center as the Giants enter their bye week. The team stands 4-2-1 and will hold a guaranteed lead in the NFC East after the break.
Schoen said Tracy suffered a hamstring injury in the second quarter of the Giants’ Sunday victory over the Houston Texans and did not touch the ball again. He confirmed the club will place Tracy on injured reserve and added that the injury is not expected to be season-ending for the third-year running back. The move opens a roster spot and creates an immediate need for depth at running back as the Giants prepare for the second half of the season.
The Giants signed Gregory Desrosiers to the active roster from the Chargers’ practice squad to help fill the vacancy. Schoen said the club also has practice squad running back Phil Mafah, whom the staff likes, and expressed confidence in Devin Singletary and Cam Skattebo as the primary ballcarriers. The team released wide receiver Jason Brownlee from the practice squad and added veteran defensive lineman Dean Lowry to the practice squad in corresponding roster moves.
Schoen said the front office will meet with head coach John Harbaugh in the coming days to review the roster and set priorities ahead of the Nov. 10 trade deadline. He said those meetings will cover free agents, potential trade candidates and whether to pursue contract extensions during the bye week. Schoen noted the timing gives the organization room to evaluate both internal options and external opportunities before making deadline decisions. He added that being 14 days from the deadline will factor into how the club approaches offers and trades.
The general manager called the Giants’ quarterback room “one of the stronger ones in the league” and pointed to the offseason extension for Jameis Winston as validation of that depth. Schoen noted Winston has produced a 2-1-1 record as a starter this season when called upon. He also provided an update on rookie Jaxson Dart, saying Dart is not weight-bearing, is using crutches during his rehab and remains around the facility and positive about a potential return if the team reaches the playoffs. Schoen emphasized the mental benefit of Dart staying engaged with the team while he recovers.
Schoen praised the coaching and strength-and-conditioning staffs and singled out several players for their play and resilience. He highlighted cornerback Deonte Banks for returning to starting-caliber form and commended right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor for playing at a high level despite a recent injury. Schoen also lauded rookie linebacker Arvell Reese for his playmaking and credited inside-linebacker coach Frank Bush and veteran teammates for accelerating the rookie class’s impact. He pointed to late-game finishes and fourth-quarter performances as signs of the team’s toughness.

The Giants’ decision to place Tyrone Tracy Jr. on injured reserve and promote Gregory Desrosiers addresses an immediate depth need without altering the club’s top running-back structure led by Devin Singletary and Cam Skattebo. With the Nov. 10 trade deadline approaching, the front office will have to weigh internal roster flexibility against external acquisition opportunities as Schoen and Harbaugh review free agents and trade candidates. Jameis Winston’s reliability as a backup and Jaxson Dart’s uncertain recovery keep quarterback depth a continuing priority for the organization. Strong play from young defenders such as Arvell Reese and the return of Deonte Banks provide the Giants with core building blocks as they enter the stretch run of the season.
