The Cleveland Browns’ 2026 rookie class has become a consistent factor in the team’s success, the club reported Oct. 29, 2026. Cleveland sits atop the AFC North with a 5-2 record entering Week 8, and multiple first-year players have earned regular snaps and starting roles. Four rookies are starting on offense while others have increased responsibilities on defense and special teams.

On the offensive line, first-year tackle Spencer Fano and guard Austin Barber have settled into starting roles since Week 1 and helped the line build cohesion in both pass protection and the running game. Pro Football Focus gave Fano a 92.2 overall grade in Week 7, his season high, and noted he led all offensive linemen with a 92.4 run-blocking grade that week while surrendering two pressures on 41 pass-block snaps. Through seven games Fano has a 76.9 PFF overall grade, which ranks 11th among 83 qualifying offensive tackles, and Barber entered Week 7 with a 71.5 PFF offensive grade, the second-highest among rookie offensive linemen, according to PFF.

In the passing game, rookies Denzel Boston and KC Concepcion Jr. have emerged as primary targets and rank near the top of NFL rookies in receiving yards. Boston has five receptions of 20-plus yards, a long of 60 yards, 372 receiving yards and three touchdowns this season, while Concepcion posted career highs in Week 7 with eight catches for 129 yards and has 315 receiving yards for the year. The Browns reported that Boston and Concepcion lead the team in targets and receiving yards, and PFF-derived metrics show Concepcion ranked 24th in the NFL with 170 receiving yards after the catch, while Boston ranked 60th with 122 yards after the catch.

Defensively, safety Emmanuel McNeil-Warren has seen his role expand, earning two starts in seven games and contributing on special teams. The Browns highlighted his key pass breakups, including two in Week 4 against the Pittsburgh team and a fourth-quarter breakup in Week 6 against the Baltimore Ravens, plus a tackle for loss on Derrick Henry in the red zone. Pro Football Focus listed McNeil-Warren with an 89.1 grade heading into Week 7, the third-highest among safeties, and the team credited coaches with noting his instincts, range and work ethic.

The Browns noted that five first-year players and four second-year starters are in key spots across the depth chart, reflecting the coaching staff’s trust in young talent. Week after week those players have helped the club reach a 5-2 mark and have provided a foundation for sustained competitiveness. The team emphasized that the combination of rookie contributions and veteran presence has been central to the Browns’ current standing as they prepare for Week 8.

NFL Sports Blog Take

The Browns’ rookie class is producing tangible results that align with the team’s 5-2 start, and the PFF grades cited for Spencer Fano and Emmanuel McNeil-Warren suggest those performances are more than anecdotal. Line stability from Fano and Austin Barber has likely aided both Deshaun Watson’s protection and the ground game, while Denzel Boston and KC Concepcion Jr. have supplied legitimate downfield and YAC threats. If the young players maintain their current trajectory, Cleveland should continue to benefit from internal development as it balances short-term wins with long-term roster building.
