Browns honor Coach Shawn Austin as AYF x NFL Play Football Coach of the Week
The Cleveland Browns recognized Coach Shawn Austin, founder and executive director of IMPACT Youth Inc., as the AYF x NFL Play Football Coach of the Week during pregame warmups for the team2719s Week 4 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Oct. 1, the team announced. The honor highlighted Austin2719s dedication to youth football, mentorship and community leadership across Northeast Ohio. As part of the recognition, the Browns presented Austin with an official certificate, Browns memorabilia and tickets to the Oct. 1 Thursday Night Football game.
Austin has led IMPACT Youth for more than two decades, creating opportunities for hundreds of boys and girls to participate in football while emphasizing character, discipline and life skills, the Browns said. The organization runs year-round football and training programs that the team credited with helping young athletes develop on and off the field. The Browns said Austin is widely regarded in the community as a mentor, role model and father figure.
The Browns highlighted Austin2719s work to expand access to the game, including helping to launch a girls flag football team at St. Martin de Porres High School. The team called girls flag football “a fast-growing sport in the country” and pointed to Austin2719s advocacy for new opportunities for female athletes. Austin said the honor reflected the larger community that supports IMPACT Youth: “An acknowledgment carries even greater meaning when it comes from respected leaders, mentors and supporters who recognize not only the individual, but the purpose and work behind the impact.”
As part of the award, Austin and his family received a behind-the-scenes tour of CrossCountry Mortgage Campus, sideline passes to view pregame activities from the field and tickets to the Browns2719 Oct. 1 Thursday Night Football game against the Steelers. He was surprised on the field with the official AYF x NFL Play Football Coach of the Week designation and was recognized again during warmups prior to the Browns2719 victory over Pittsburgh. Reflecting on the day, Austin said, “Some moments just hit different. A meaningful honor, an electric atmosphere and a Browns victory over Pittsburgh, that is a hometown Cleveland memory I will never forget.”
The Browns noted Austin2719s long-term focus on mentorship and youth development and quoted him saying the recognition served as a reminder to continue investing in the next generation. “Recognition may have one name on it, but the impact belongs to the entire village,” Austin said. He added that the real reward has always been the opportunity to serve, mentor and invest in young people.
