New York Jets sign OT Blake Freeland; Max Mitchell to reserve/injured
The New York Jets signed offensive tackle Blake Freeland to the active roster and placed offensive lineman Max Mitchell on the reserve/injured list, the club announced Nov. 3, 2026. The team also released cornerback Tre Brown from the reserve/injured list as part of the roster move. The transactions were posted by the Jets on their official transactions page on Nov. 3, and the report was published the same day.
Freeland, listed at 6-foot-7, 302-pound, most recently was on the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad after being waived by the Indianapolis Professional Football Team on Aug. 31. He played 144 offensive snaps during the preseason for that club and was a fourth-round selection by the Indianapolis Professional Football Team in the 2023 NFL Draft. Freeland made nine starts as a rookie, appeared in 15 games overall, logged 36 special teams snaps and 23 on offense in 2024, and missed the entire 2025 season after suffering a fracture in his right leg.
Mitchell, listed at 6-foot-6, 307-pound, sustained a head injury in practice prior to Week 7 and has missed the past two games. This season he has played 22 special teams snaps through the first six weeks. Mitchell, who played collegiately at Louisiana, was selected by the Jets in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft and has played 51 games with the Green and White, including 17 starts.
Brown, listed at 5-foot-10, 186-pound, was placed on the reserve/injured list Aug. 30 and the Jets later released him from that list as part of the moves. He played 96 defensive snaps and 15 special teams snaps in the preseason prior to that placement. Brown initially joined the Jets’ practice squad Nov. 11 of last season after a release by the Los Angeles Rams and appeared in 10 games in 2025, five with the Rams and five with the Jets. His career totals include 49 games played, 82 tackles, eight passes defensed, two forced fumbles and one interception returned for a touchdown.

The Jets added depth at tackle by signing Freeland, a former fourth-round pick with starting experience, and moved Mitchell to the reserve/injured list to open a roster spot. Freeland’s recent preseason work and his recovery from a 2025 leg fracture are relevant as he joins the active roster. Releasing Brown from the reserve/injured list clears an additional roster slot and finalizes the short-term adjustments. These moves were announced Nov. 3, 2026, and reflect New York’s immediate response to player availability during the season.
