Bears Hold Off Patriots 30-24 on Thursday Night
By Brian Hradsky
The Chicago Bears defeated the New England Patriots 30-24 on Thursday night at Soldier Field, improving to 5-2. New England slipped to 4-3 after a game that remained unsettled late. Chicago survived mistakes across all three phases to protect its home field.
Caleb Williams supplied explosive passing plays, repeatedly finding room downfield. Luther Burden III had receptions of 58, 22, 26 and 24 yards, while Rome Odunze added three 21-yard catches. Those gains helped Chicago generate enough offense to withstand the Patriots’ response.
Cairo Santos delivered the critical insurance with a 58-yard field goal and 1:34 remaining. The kick stretched the lead to nine points after a costly sack threatened to push Chicago out of range. New England added a late field goal, but Chicago finished with a six-point victory.
Brian’s Take
Chicago has the offensive playmakers to beat good teams, but the margin for unnecessary mistakes will shrink against stronger opponents. The Bears should take encouragement from their ability to finish without treating every escape as a sustainable formula. New England remained competitive, yet allowing repeated explosive completions made its comeback much harder.
