Broncos Beat Chiefs 28–24

By Brian Hradsky

The Denver Broncos beat the Kansas City Chiefs 28–24 on Sunday after scoring 15 unanswered points in the fourth quarter and stopping the Chiefs on their final possession. Rookie Jonah Coleman scored the winning touchdown, and Malcolm Roach sealed the result with a sack. Denver improved to 6–2 with its fourth straight win, while Kansas City fell to 5–2.

The Chiefs led 24–13 entering the fourth quarter. Jaylen Waddle caught a touchdown pass and a two-point conversion to cut the deficit to three, and a sack by Alex Singleton helped keep Kansas City from stretching the lead. With Denver still down three late, Bo Nix found Coleman, who carried the ball to the Kansas City 5 and later scored the go-ahead touchdown.

Kansas City finished with 11 penalties for 105 yards. A false start wiped out an apparent late touchdown to Rashee Rice, and the Chiefs never got those points back. Denver’s pass rush finished the job, leaving the Broncos with the AFC West lead after a game they spent much of the second half chasing.

Brian’s Take

Denver’s late execution was strong on both sides of the ball, especially the way Coleman turned a short throw into a chance to take the lead. Kansas City had the better position for much of the game, but its penalties repeatedly changed what it had to do next. Against a defense that can finish with pressure, giving back yardage and downs is especially costly.
