Chiefs Defeat Dolphins, 24-10, to Move to 3-0

KANSAS CITY, Mo. The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Miami Dolphins 24-10 on Sunday to improve to 3-0 on the season. Cornerback Nohl Williams broke up a fourth-down pass with six minutes remaining, thwarting a potential game-tying drive. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes then found tight end Travis Kelce for an 11-yard touchdown that effectively put the game away. Head Coach Andy Reid said the team had plenty to work on despite the start.
Running back Ken Walker opened the scoring with a 10-yard touchdown on the Chiefs’ opening series. Miami responded with a 17-play, 91-yard drive that tied the game at 7. Kansas City answered with a 10-play, 65-yard series capped by a 5-yard touchdown catch by Walker to regain the lead.
The contest turned into a low-scoring battle as the teams combined for just 3 points over the next nine drives. Each side had a failed fourth-down conversion and a turnover during that stretch. Despite Miami reaching Kansas City territory on five consecutive possessions after the early exchange, the Dolphins managed only 3 points the rest of the way.
Kansas City extended its lead early in the fourth quarter with an 80-yard drive that produced a 34-yard field goal by kicker Harrison Butker. Miami drove into midfield with about 11 minutes remaining, but Williams broke up a pivotal 4th-and-5 to stop the threat. Mahomes connected with Kelce in the end zone on the next drive to seal the victory.
Mahomes completed 20 of 24 passes for 246 yards and two touchdowns, moving past Joe Montana for the 20th-most passing touchdowns in NFL history with 247 career strikes. He completed 11 of 12 play-action attempts for 183 yards and a score. Defensive lineman Chris Jones said the team faced adversity but found a way to win, and Reid reported after the game that the Chiefs came out with a clean bill of health.
Kansas City will travel to Las Vegas next weekend for a divisional matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders. The Chiefs will look to maintain situational defense and efficient passing as they head into that road test. The result kept Kansas City perfect through three weeks and provided a blueprint for tightening performance in the middle portions of games.

The Chiefs earned a hard-fought victory that featured efficient passing from Patrick Mahomes, scoring from running back Ken Walker and timely kicking by Harrison Butker. Kansas City’s defense tightened in the second half, limiting Miami to 3 points after the early exchange of touchdowns and making a decisive fourth-down stop late. If Mahomes continues to convert on play-action and the defense sustains those situational stops, Kansas City has the balance to remain unbeaten.
