Cleveland Browns add James Proche II, Chris Williams to practice squad; make multiple practice squad moves

On Oct. 6, the Cleveland Browns signed wide receiver James Proche II and defensive tackle Chris Williams to the practice squad and released running back Eric Gray, punter Wes Pahl and tackle Xavier Truss from the practice squad, the team announced on its official transactions page. The team posted the moves on its transactions log. The moves are part of the Browns’ ongoing roster adjustments.
The team placed quarterback Dillon Gabriel on injured reserve Aug. 30 with a back issue and designated him to return. The team placed defensive tackle Kalia Davis on injured reserve Sept. 1 with a quad issue. The Browns added Eric Gray, Wes Pahl and Xavier Truss to the practice squad on Sept. 15 and released them Oct. 6. Proche and Williams join a practice squad the organization has frequently adjusted this season.
The additions and releases provide the Browns flexibility at receiver, interior defensive line and on special teams as they manage short-term needs. With Gabriel and Kalia Davis eligible to return to practice, the team can evaluate both players for activation to the active roster. These moves continue a pattern of week-to-week roster management as the season progresses.

The Browns’ Oct. 6 transactions reflect routine roster maintenance aimed at balancing depth and health. Adding a receiver and a defensive tackle to the practice squad while freeing spots previously occupied by recent signings preserves flexibility for the coaching staff. Having Dillon Gabriel and Kalia Davis eligible to return to practice opens the door for short-term reinforcement at quarterback and along the defensive front. The team will likely continue to cycle practice squad personnel as it responds to injuries and performance needs.
