According to PhiladelphiaEagles.com on Oct. 24, 2026, the team announced last Friday that it signed Joe Milton III from the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad. Milton will face his former club in Monday night’s NFC East meeting at Lincoln Financial Field. He was listed as the Eagles’ third-string quarterback in practice reports and already is learning a new playbook ahead of the rivalry game.

Milton entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick in the 2024 draft by the New England Patriots and is noted for his size and arm strength. The 6-foot-5 quarterback ran a 4.62 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine and tied Josh Allen for the fastest-recorded throw speed at 62 mph, according to the team report. He led the Patriots to a Week 18 victory in his rookie season when he replaced an injured Drake Maye and drew attention for his athleticism and arm talent.

The Dallas Cowboys acquired Milton during the 2025 offseason to back up Dak Prescott, and he appeared in four games for Dallas in his second NFL season. He was part of the Cowboys’ practice squad this season before Philadelphia signed him. Milton said he was surprised when his agent informed him of the Eagles’ interest and he chose to join Philadelphia to pursue an active roster opportunity.

Milton credited Eagles quarterbacks coach Parks Frazier and assistant Sean Mannion with helping his transition and said Frazier “took me under his wing” as he works through the new offense. Learning a new offense midseason is a tall task, but Milton said he came to Philadelphia to seize the opportunity and prove himself. The Eagles included multiple practice photos of Milton in the build-up to the Week 7 matchup on their website.

The signing gives the Philadelphia Eagles additional quarterback depth with a player who has prior NFL game experience and notable physical traits that attracted teams during the draft process. The immediate challenge will be how quickly Milton can assimilate the Eagles’ terminology and play concepts in a short time frame, even with direct coaching from Frazier and Mannion. His recent work with the Cowboys could help with familiarity, but the move most clearly adds developmental depth rather than an instant change to the starter hierarchy.
