Vikings: Aaron Jones Sr. and Joe Huber Did Not Practice Wednesday
EAGAN, Minn. — The Minnesota Vikings returned to practice Wednesday as they prepare to visit the Detroit Lions at noon (CT) Sunday in Week 8 of the 2026 season. The team scheduled additional practices Thursday and Friday. The Vikings said game-status designations will be announced Friday in the team’s Wednesday injury report posted Oct. 28, 2026.
The Vikings said running back Aaron Jones Sr. did not participate Wednesday with a knee issue (DNP). Guard Joe Huber also did not participate Wednesday with a knee issue (DNP). Tackle Brian O’Neill was limited Wednesday with a knee issue (LP). Head coach Kevin O’Connell said Jones is day-to-day after leaving Minnesota’s Week 7 game against the Indianapolis Professional Football Team following a 17-yard run.
O’Connell said Huber was experiencing soreness and the Vikings gave him an extra day of recovery by holding him out of Wednesday’s practice. The team planned to have Trevor Keegan and rookie Caleb Tiernan take reps in Huber’s place during Wednesday’s session. Huber has started the past two games at left guard in place of Donovan Jackson, who exited Minnesota’s Week 4 contest and required surgery to repair a torn meniscus.
The Detroit Lions provided a Wednesday injury report that listed practice statuses for multiple players. Ennis Rakestraw, CB — Ankle, LP; Kerby Joseph, S — Knee, LP; Jacob Saylors, RB — Neck, LP. Jahmyr Gibbs, RB — Shoulder, DNP; Amon-Ra St. Brown, WR — Ankle, DNP. Several others were listed as NIR and did not participate: Aidan Hutchinson, EDGE — NIR (rest), DNP; Alim McNeill, DT — NIR (rest), DNP; Penei Sewell, T — NIR (rest), DNP; Tyleik Williams, DT — NIR (illness), DNP; DJ Wonnum, EDGE — NIR (rest), DNP.
The Vikings reiterated that final game statuses will be released Friday after the team’s final practice. The Oct. 28 report is the Vikings’ initial injury update for the Week 8 matchup and will be followed by two more practice reports before kickoff. Coaches and medical staff will provide additional details as the week progresses.
NFL Sports Blog Take
Aaron Jones Sr. being listed day-to-day and Brian O’Neill limited with a knee issue introduces uncertainty for Minnesota’s offense entering Week 8, particularly for the running game and offensive-line continuity. Joe Huber’s soreness and the rep work for Trevor Keegan and rookie Caleb Tiernan show the Vikings are prepared to shift personnel at left guard if necessary without asserting who will start. Detroit’s report, with several players listed as DNP or NIR (rest or illness), suggests the Lions are managing workloads this week. Final practice reports on Friday will be necessary to determine how those statuses translate into availability for Sunday.
